Day 2: Punta Mujeres (natural pools) - Jameos del Agua - Cueva de los Verdes - Mirador del Rio

Day 3: Jardin de Cactus - Teguise - Caleta de Famara

Day 4: Costa Teguise or/and chill out at the beach nearby

Day 5: Salinas de Janubio - Los Hervideros - Timanfaya National Park - El Golfo

Day 6: Playa Blanca - Playa Dorada Beach - Papagayo Beach - La Geria

Day 7: Arrieta (or the place you're staying at) - Flight Back Home

Day 1: Flight to Arrecife - Arrieta (El Lago del Mar)

On day 1, take it easy. Take the flight to Arrecife, the capital city of Lanzarote and drive to your booked accommodation. If you need an advice for a lovely stay, we can highly recommend the apartment El Lago del Mar. Why? It is located right at the coastline, has a beautiful view of the sea, is a perfect spot for romantic sunrises and if you're hungry, there is a fish restaurant just around the corner (and no, you won't smell the fish in your apartment). Actually, this place to stay was the highlight of our trip, so we just had to add it onto the list of Best Places to Stay - Our Recommendation.

Day 2: Punta Mujeres - Jameos del Agua - Cueva de los Verdes - Mirador del Rio

1# Punta Mujeres (Natural Pools)

Day 2 shouldn't be that tiring as well. We walked to the natural pools in Punta Mujeres - 5 minutes from our stay - and Jerry easily took a plunge in the water. Oh yes, December was still ok for that but there are months, when the water is warmer, like in June, July and August. There is also a small sand beach in the village, so make sure to spend some time sunbathing and reading your book there.

2# Jameos del Agua

Next stop you might want to do is the Jameos del Agua. It is a volcano tunnel with a blue lagoon and a restaurant. You might also see some white spiders in the cave. We wish we could tell you, how it looks like from the inside but we can't. Reason? Once we arrived, there was a huuuge group of people in front of the entrance, waiting to go in. Instead of waiting in the line, we decided to go for a walk along the coastline. The Jamoes del Agua is actually a very good place to park your car and do so. The coastline is full of volcanic soil and therefore the walk well worthy.

3# Cueva de los Verdes

Nearby there is the famous "Green cave". It is actually a lava tube, which can be visited from the inside and allows you to walk around. We haven't visited it, there was again a group waiting in front of it to enter. We didn't feel like waiting and walking in, but maybe you wanna do it. If you decide visiting it, let us know, how it was :)

4# Mirador del Rio

This is a MUST SEE in Lanzarote! The Mirador del Rio offers spectacular views of the Lanzarote island with its cliffs and volcanoes and the island nearby, called La Graciosa. There is a terrace to enjoy the views and a cafe & restaurant, in case you wanna spend some more time there.

Day 3: Jardin de Cactus - Teguise - Caleta de Famara

1# Jardin de Cactus

Located in the village of Guatiza, this cactus garden has over 450 species of cactus, mainly from North & South America, Madagascar and other desert areas. There is also a picturesque windmill, a restaurant to enjoy and a gift shop, where you can buy some great gifts for your loved ones back home. The entrance fee for adults is about 6.50 EUR. In our opinion, it is worth to pay and and walk among the cactuses!

2# Teguise

Don't skip Teguise. It's such a cute little town with small white houses. It's a perfect stop for a coffee, a meal or if you're interested in craft shops and handmade stuff. There is also a nice square with a fountain and some benches. Ah, I liked it so much, so I added it onto the list of the Small Towns in Europe You Should Visit.

3# Caleta de Famara

Make sure to drive to the village called Caleta de Famara. It was one of our favourite places on the island. First of all, the white-blue houses are really worth a picture. Then, there are some beautiful sand beaches and the surrounding mountains are stunning to observe. Last but not least, it's a stop for surfing! If you like this sport, this is the place to go!

Day 4: Costa Teguise or a Day at the Beach

On day 4, it's up to you. Maybe you prefer a day off without any excursions. This would be the perfect timing to spend a day at the beach near to your place to stay. We actually drove to the capital city Arrecife to buy some food in a bigger supermarket, then we made a stop in Costa Teguise. The latter town is not a must see, it's full of tourists and party junkies, but it is known for its promenade. We went for a walk and had some coffee. Later that day, we spent our time at the beach in Arrieta.

Day 5: Salinas de Janubio - Los Hervideros - Timanfaya National Park - El Golfo

1# Salinas de Janubio

You might want to choose the salt flats called Salinas de Janubio for your first destination on day 5. It is not a must see but the landscape makes it overall stunning. Each year, from 2,000 to 15,000 tons of salt is extracted from the salt flats. Stop for a photo, then head towards Los Hervideros.

2# Los Hervideros

This one you shouldn't miss at all. The natural attraction called Los Hervideros is interesting to explore due to its bizarre shaped-cliffs, volcanic pathways and waves crashing into the rocky cliffs. We were really impressed by this place.

3# Timanfaya National Park

Many of the tourists visit the island mainly for the Timanfaya National park. There is one active volcano in this national park, which the latter was named after - the Timanfaya volcano. The spectacular volcanic landscape, the ruggedness of the terrain and the jugged coastline are some of the reasons, why it is worth visiting. What else to do and see there? There is the Visitor Centre, where you learn about the geological history, including the fauna and flora; the Mountains of Fire; you can go for walks and even camel rides. You can visit the park with your rental car or you can choose an organised tour.

4# El Golfo

End your day in El Golfo - the seaside village with numerous fish restaurants to choose from. Besides the eating facilities, it is a great spot to admire the sunset over the island.

Day 6: Playa Blanca - Playa Dorada Beach - Papagayo Beach - La Geria

1# Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca is very famous among tourists, therefore don't expect to be alone at this beach. Usually, we avoid places like that but with all the restaurants, cafes, shop, the nice promenade along the coast, and especially the clean and nice sand beach we recommend visiting this place on day 6!

2# Playa Dorada Beach

A 5-min walk away along the coastline, there is another beach called Playa Dorada. Again, it can be very crowded but the color of water is unbelievable beautiful and very welcoming :)

3# Papagayo Beach

Another MUST SEE place in Lanzarote - the Papagayo Beach in the southern part of the island. You can drive to this destination but there is a (small) entrance fee to the park. The road is not paved, so watch out for holes. Once there, enjoy the landscape, majestic cliffs, white sand beaches, turquoise water - oh, don't forget your swimsuit!  It's a perfect spot to relax on the beach and enjoy the surrounding nature. There is even a restaurant and cafe for the hungry and thirsty ones.

4# La Geria

Your last stop on day 6 in Lanzarote should be La Geria. It is a protected wine-growing region, covered with volvanic ash. Thus, there are several wineries, selling award-winning wines, you might want to taste and buy. If you're not a wine lover, it is still worth driving by to enjoy the surreal landscape.

Day 7: Arrieta - Flight Back Home

For the last day, we recommend to relax on the balcony or the beach nearby before taking the journey back home. We know, it's hard to leave :)

Bonus: Island La Graciosa

There is this scenic island called La Graciosa - a destination might worth your time when you're done exploring Lanzarote (we didn't manage to go). Every half an hour, there is a ferry, which takes you to the island. The estimated driving time is about 30 minutes. Price per adult: 26 EUR. See all the details here.
