6 Special Hiking Destinations in Europe

Hello hiker, hello Europe traveller! Looking for your next destination? Well, here are 6 hiking destinations in Europe, which are less-known among hikers and somehow special! They are unusual in terms of their landscape, diversity, views or they belong to the section - offbeat destination! Have a look:

1# Roque Nublo, Gran Canaria

First, we want you to fly to Gran Canaria! This small volcanic island, which belongs to one of the 7 Canary Islands in Spain, is literally a hiker paradise! The highest peak measures 1,900 m, but is probably not as picturesque as the peak nearby, Roque Nublo (1,800 m). One of the best options is to choose the 2-hour circle hiking route around the Roque Nublo. Of course, not only Roque Nublo is worth your time, hiking can be also fun in the Southern and Northern part of the island! For further information, please read our blog post: 7 Days in Gran Canaria

WHEN TO GO: Best hiking is considered to be in the winter time - From November to February

2# Triglav National Park, Slovenia

The Triglav National Park offers many stunning hiking paths, but this one is probably one of the most special approaches in terms of scenery. The ascend will take you to the beautiful spot called 7 Triglav Lakes, a place worth all of your sweat drops! The starting point of this medium-level hike is at the hut Koca pri Savici. It will take you about 3.30 hours to reach the beautiful spot. For further information about the beauty of Slovenia, please read our blog post: Why Slovenia Should Be Your Next Destination

WHEN TO GO: In, spring, summer or fall - From May to September

3# Arosa, Switzerland

Switzerland should be high on your bucket list, if hiking is your chosen activity! Among thousands of hiking paths, this one has blown us away - it's in the Eastern part of the country, in Arosa. This medium-level hike starts at Hörnlihütte and leads you to 3 breathtaking mountain lakes (Urdensee, Älplisee, Schwellisee) with amazing scenery in the back! The whole route will take you approx. 3-4 hours. For further information, please read the blog post: The Most Beautiful Lakes in Switzerland

WHEN TO GO: From spring to fall - From April to October

4# Nuuksio National Park, Finland

Hiking through the pine trees in the Nuuksio National Park is a unique experience! If walking along a lake, ascending through a forest, picking up blueberries, admiring lavender and aquatic plants is appealing to you, this hike is for you. Drive 45-minutes from Helsinki to the national park and choose one of the day-hikes, marked on the maps there. Our choice was the blue marked path, called Haukankierros, which lasted about 3 hours. WHEN TO GO: In summer - from June to August

5# Cinque Terre, Italy

The Cinque Terre Hike is famous due to its picturesque coastline path, leading through 5 impressive Italian villages - Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso! Yes, it can be conquered in one day, but it will take you about 8-9 hours! My advice is to do it in a more relaxed way, hiking between the first 3 villages on the first day and leaving the other 2 for the second day. Is it hard to do it? Well, the only hard part is between Monterosso and Vernazza, other parts are quite easy! For further information, please read the blog post: Hike the Cinque Terre

WHEN TO GO: In spring or fall - From March and April; From September to November

6# Ponta de Sao Lourenco, Madeira

One of the most impressive hikes so far was the 4-hour walk in the Southeastern part of the Portuguese little island called Madeira! When on the island, drive to Ponta de Sao Lourenco. It is not a hard walk in terms of length but more because of the sun exposure! It is a must to take a sun cream and a hat with you!
