At this point, let us present you the most beautiful lakes in Switzerland...so far. Ammmm, why so far? Well, did you know that Switzerland has 1,484 lakes? :) Well, it would be a bit crazy to visit all of them in such a short time (3 years since we moved to Switzerland). But we have managed to visit a huge amount of this earth creatures so far! And now it is the right time to pass the knowledge on to you guys! If you plan your trip to Switzerland, you might want to include some of these lakes into your travel itinerary! Let's get started!
The first year of our new life in Switzerland was tough. Looking for an apartment, starting a new job, dealing with lots of bureaucracy and adapting to the Swiss culture, made our lives for a while a bit challenging. But as soon everything calmed down, we wanted to discover the country, we now called home. After a bit of a research, we realized there are so many places we want to visit. After a couple of trips, we really liked these cute little Swiss towns, but we were even more impressed by the majestic mountains and lovely lakes. Now, we made a list of the most beautiful lakes we've discovered so far with the aim to inspire your next trips within Switzerland. We'd wish we had took some photos and videos of the lakes with our drone but we didn't own it by the time we were exploring them. Now have a look at the lakes:
The Most Beautiful Lakes in Switzerland
Älplisee
Älplisee is definitely one of the most beautiful lakes in Switzerland! To admire this beautiful mountain lake, drive to Arosa and park your car at Hörnli. In case you're not renting out a car, take the train to Arosa and catch the free bus from Arosa to the Hörnli station. Now you have two options. One is to hike all the way up to the Älplisee. The whole route up and down will take you about 2 hours and 30 minutes. You will even have to pass another beautiful lake called Schwellisee. Another option to see the Älplisee is to take the cable car to the Hörnlihütte. Find more info here. The option with the cable car is much easier, as you will only have to descend for about 40 minutes to the Älplisee and then to go back it will take you another half an hour to the parking space.

Urdensee
Certainly one of our favourite lakes in Switzerland is the Urdensee. Its colour, its surrounding, its calmness. Everything is perfect! The good news is that the Älplisee and the Urdensee can both be admired on the same hiking trail! When taking the cable car to Hörnlihütte, consider hiking 30-minutes down to the Urdensee. If you want to see the Älplisee too, you have to go back to the cable car station and continue the hiking trail in the direction of the Älplisee. Don't worry, everything is well marked in Switzerland. Just follow the signs!

Klöntalersee
The Klöntalersee is a beautiful lake in canton Glarus. In summer, it is possible to swim in the lake and hike in the surrounding mountains. Park your car near the lake and ascend 20 minutes to the viewpoint called Schwammhöhe. The views are spectacular!

Bannalpsee
Bannalpsee is a fantastic hiking destination. It is located Southern of the Lake Lucerne, near Engelberg. Take the cable car to the lake and walk around the lake for about 1 hour. Caumasee
Probably one of the most beautiful lakes is the Caumasee. Its turquoise water is stunning and its small island is an eye-catcher. Due to its meditative touch it is a great place for a summer yoga practice. Its different shades of blue are even more significant in winter. Therefore a visit in the wintertime might be a great option too.

Engstlensee
In the Obwalden canton in Switzerland you will find the Engstlensee. Its one of the beautiful lakes in Switzerland which is accessible by car! Once in Meiringen, drive
another 40 minutes to the Hotel Engstlenalp. Its about 10 minutes walk to this mountain lake. When I was standing beside this lake, I felt like I was in a fairytale. It is well worth it!

Oh my, the Gelmersee is not only one of the most beautiful lakes in Switzerland but probably one of the most beautiful lakes worldwide! Vierwaldstättersee
One of the most popular and therefore most photographed lake in Switzerland is the Vierwaldstättersee, also called the Lake Lucerne. This photo was taken from the majestic mountain called Grosser Mythen. Other great views over the lake can be soaked up from the mountains such as Felsenweg Bürgerstock, Pilatus and Rigi. With its great location, Brunnen is a great town to visit if you want to make some stunning pictures of the lake too.

Sihlsee
This is a lake that I want you to visit in winter! In summer, it's nice too, but definitely not as picturesque as in the winter time. In winter, you can even go cross-country skiing along the lake. Seealpsee
Appenzell is a great canton to go hiking. Park your car at Wasserauen and take the cable car to Ebenalp. Once there, descend to the famous Aescher and afterwards follow the trail to the Seealpsee. Take a hike around the lake and enjoy the gorgeous landscape.

Genfersee (aka Lake Leman)
Genfersee is situated in the French part of Switzerland. Actually one side of the lake belongs to Switzerland, the other side to France! The lake is popular due to its summer activities,
